About This Item
Iowa City: The State Historical Society of Iowa, 1938. Hardcover. Small 4to. Red cloth with gilt decorations and lettering. 312pp. Frontispiece with captioned tissue guard. Near fine. Spine ever-so-faintly sunned. First edition, a tight and quite handsome copy of this desireable title with lovely bright gilt. Interestingly, front flyleaf bears an archival, decorative-edged bookplate boldly signed and inscribed in black ballpoint by Ellen M. Whitney, compiler of the massive 4-volume "The Black Hawk War, 1831-1832," an authoritative compilation and bibliography published by the Illinois State Historical Society between 1970 and 1978.
