About This Item
New York: Harper & Brothers, 1959. First Edition. Very good +/very good. [i-xiv], 178 pp. VG+ (half speckled cloth boards) in a VG unclipped dustjacket with loss at spine ends and moderate scuffing and edgewear. INSCRIBED on ffep: To Mildred KnopfTry to cook this on your hot stove Robert Paris Los Angeles 4/23/60. Mildred Knopf was publisher Alfred A. Knopfs sister-in-law, as she was married to his brother, the famous Hollywood director, writer, and producer, Edwin Knopf (The Rebel, Mr. Imperium, Rendezvous). Mildred Knopf was a cookbook writer of some esteem (thus, the inscription), publishing six cookbooks including The Perfect Hostess Cook Book in 1950 and Cook, My Darling Daughter in 1959. Robert Paris was head dramatic coach of Columbia Pictures and for Samuel Goldwyn at MGM, where he presumably would have known Edwin Knopf. Pariss pupils included Lucille Ball, Lloyd Bridges, Carol Channing, Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor, Rita Hayworth, Shelly Winters, and Shirley Temple. Not found in OCLC, and uncommon thus. An interesting association.
