One of the best firsthand accounts of conditions and suffering mixed with extraordinary care of the soldiers near the end of the war. He deals also with the women who worked with the colored hospital at City Point, he has much on the sufferings at Burksville where there was a scarcity of surgeons, serious overcrowding, and how the shock of Lincoln's assassination affected those in such desperate straits. Bound in pictorial gilt brown cloth depicting a tent and two men, spine lettering gilt, pale yellow endpapers, from the library of George Seymour Godard, who was and American librarian.
