Quarto, bound in three quarters morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, with a frontispiece in color and one hundred thirty illustrations from antique prints and photographs, endpaper and chapter heads by Kurt Wise. One of 500 copies signed by the author on the limitation page, this is number 310. In fine condition. American author, journalist and Hollywood scenarist Phil Stong made his first success in 1932 with the publication of his famous novel, State Fair, which was later adapted into the hit Rodgers and Hammerstein musical of the same name. In addition to his novels, his short stories were published in most of the leading national magazines of the time, and he wrote several screenplays. About his writing career, Stong once stated, "Fell while trying to clamber out of a low bathtub at the age of two. Became a writer. No other possible career."
