About This Item
NY: Frederick A. Stokes Company. Good with no dust jacket; Boards worn, spine cracked, one plate loose.. N.D.. Hardcover. Brown cloth binding. Eleven photos and illustrations. Circa 1920s biography of the English Decadent Poet by the author and wife of literary critic Theodore Watts-Dunton, who took care of him for years following what has been variously referred to as a nervous or alcoholic breakdown, or both. Wikipedia notes that Swinburne was notorious in his college years for spreading a rumor that he had copulated with and later eaten a monkey, so one wonders whether the author was aware of this before agreeing to bring him into her own home life for the better part of thirty years. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 288 pages .
