Two black full leather volumes with gilt decoration on banded spine and decoration on covers, gilt decoration on inside of covers, gilt blocks, brown end-papers, multiple silk ribbon page markers. Corners of covers are lightly rubbed. Gift note on title pages of both volumes "Presented to Jane Aitcheson Gray by her Loving Father Oct. 24th 1855. May God grant her Grace to read and learn". Handwritten family records on free front end-paper mainly for the children of Jane Aitcheson Briggs and Arthur Samuel Briggs between 1860 and 1920. Volume II has title page together detached with first four leaves, otherwise binding is sound. Most plates retain their tissue protective leaves, some foxing to the tissue and lightly on facing pages and on plates. Prelims have foxing but otherwise pages are clean (no amendment to the "killed/filled" misprint at Mark VII 27). These books weigh approx. 9kg. 2-volume set (complete). No dust jacket, as published.
