William Rudolph Smith came to Wisconsin from Pennsylvania. Having served in the house of representatives in Pennsylvania, Smith became a delegate to the first Wisconsin constitutional convention in 1846. He wrote these volumes, comprising a complete history of Wisconsin from the era of French exploration through statehood, in the early 1850s. They include a large number of documents translated and printed from earlier French, English and American sources, with many manuscripts transcribed and annotated. Complete in 2 volumes.
