Hardcover bound in red cloth with cover lettering and rules in gilt. The binding is rubbed and worn, and the fore edges of both covers have been damped. Inner hinges secure. Endpapers foxed, and the front flyleaf has a couple of prior owners' signatures. The text is toned and has a few stains as well as some browning on two pages where a piece of ephemera had been laid in loosely (now laid in at the front of the book). Frontis portrait of the author; no other illustrations.
