About This Item

London : T Becket and P A De Hondt, 1764 A very good copy in contemporary full leather binding with fold out map of St Kilda. An interesting account by the Rev Mr Kenneth Macaulay, who was Minister of Ardnamurchan and was sent to St Kilda as a missionary by the Society for Propagating Christian Knowledge. The binding has gilt ruled lines to the board edges and has been rebacked providing a newer spine with title and gilt lined raised bands. The binding is in very good clean condition with wear to edges and corners (some loss to the rear bottom corner) and a little scuffing. Internally there is a decorative bookplate of Ralph Stewart-Wilson to the front pastedown. Contents: initial blank; half title; folding map; title; contents 3pp; introduction pp i-iv; text pp 5-278; and publisher's list at the rear. There is some creasing to the initial leaves where the map fold lies. The map has some marks to towards the bottom edge. Contents in very good clean condition with some occasional staining in the top margin and the odd mark. There is some light spotting to preliminary leaves

About E C Books

E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
