Newcastle: J. White and T. Saint, 1764. . 8vo, modern paper-covered boards, leather spine and spine label; first few leaves dampstained; paper browned throughout; top edge cut; others untrimmed. Ownership signature of Richard Dodsley on the front free endpaper, dated 1769. FIRST EDITION. Text is largely extracted from his dissertation: "A dissertation on the rise, union, and powers, the progressions, separations, and corruptions, of poetry and music. To which is prefixed, The cure of Saul. A sacred ode" published in London in 1763. The present text does not treat music at all.
