Santa Fe Trail 309 "Ends with the admission of Missouri as a state in 1821. Of all Missouri state histories, this one is cited most often by writers about the Santa Fe Trail. It contains a number of documents on early exploration and fur trade" (Rittenhouse). Houck has taken Spanish materials and translated them. The material from the Spanish archives in Seville opens up more on the attack on Kaskaskia and St. Louis in 1780. In short, the neglected Spanish records opened up a whole new understanding of Missouri in the pre-statehood period. Bound in 1/4 light green cloth over dark green cloth, black spine label gilt, all edges gilt, rubbing or soiling to bindings. A very good set. [Howes H-671].
