Original cloth, titles stamped in black on the front cover and spine, 339 pp., preface, introduction, illustrated, two folding maps. Rittenhouse 473 says "Fort Riley was named for Major Bennet Riley, who commanded a dragoon escort on the SFT. The fort was established to provide military protection on the Kansas frontier and along the SFT. A useful source for any study of military activities along the Trail." Six Guns 1770 says "Scarce." "Gives some examples of Wild Bill Hickok's shooting prowess." A fine, bright, copy with both folding maps in fine, unused condition. An exceptional copy.
