About This Item

Phillips , Sampson , And Company. Hardcover. Very Good. Phillips , Sampson And Company published these titles from 1855 to 1859 . They were offered in a variety of full leather , three quarter leather , and cloth ( various colors ) bindings .This is a fully matched set of twelve books in full leather bindings . Brown , full grain leather . Five ribs on the spines . Gold graphics on red leather labels on the spines .Gog design on the edges of the boards and on the edges of the pastedowns . Gold stain on the top page edges . Marbled endpapers .The interiors are clean on all of these volumes , no marks of any kind . Frontispieces with tissue guards present . Illustrated with maps and engravings . The final volume has a rare engraving of Presscott . Please note the following : the hinges are beginning to loosen on a number of these books but remain tight . The one exception is volume one of PHILLIP THE SECOND where the back hinge is loose . The back board of that volume also is darkened by a spill --hopefully a good red wine . These books make a beautiful presentation on the shelf .
