London: Macmillan & Co., 1961. First edition. Hardcover. Good in Good price-clipped dust jacket. Quarto-sized. Light wear to edges of boards with bumping to head and heel of spine. Dj has wear and rubbing along edges with some small tears and scuffing to covers with long pencil marks on back cover and fading along spine. St. Martin's sticker on dj's heel of spine. Light browning to page edges with pencil mark and foxing on upper edges. Name of previous owner stamped on front free endpaper. 795 pages with illustrations, figures, footnotes, table of symbols, lists of authors and publications, and 2 indices. A detailed look at the history of chemistry from da Vinci to Boerhaave.
