Porter & Coates, Philadelphia, PA. (1877) Hard Cover. Binding copy; no jacket. Gilt decoration and black lettering on front cover and spine. Edges are gilt (minor scuff on bottom edge). Text block is clean and tight to binding though hinges are cracked both front and back. Leaves slightly tanned with age. Covers and spine lightly soiled; also with several small nicks and scratches. Some fraying at spine ends, and slight tear on joints on both sides of spine head. Owner bookplate on front pastedown 'Owen Shoemaker,' who was the owner of the historic bookbinder supplies company J. L Shoemaker & Co. of Philadelphia, established 1880-1954. Historical contents and the interesting antique appearance of this book would make a repair worthwhile.
