About This Item
Geneva: Fratres de Tournes, 1715. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 456 p. + plates. 23 cm. 13 plates at rear, 12 of which fold-out. Quarter leather with paper. Red text block edges. Black and red title page with vignette. Spine chipped, hinges cracking, worn corners and edges. Front free endpaper removed.
Title continues: "Accessit, horum occasione, De Ceteris quoque Hominum Vermibus, tunc de amnium Origine, tandemque de Remediis quibus pelli possint, Disquisitio. Cum Variis Figuris." One of the first books on intestinal parasites, written by Swiss physician Daniel Leclerc (1652-1728). This is his only work that also deals with zoology, especially the tapeworm and other worms. Numerous worms are illustrated at rear, so realistically that they are not for the faint of heart. Latin text.
