London: William Blackwood and Sons. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1891. Hardcover. 2/3" stain to front board. 1/8" loss of cloth at tips of corners of boards. A few 1/8" splits to cloth at ends of spine. Moderate rubbing to joints. Heavy foxing to endpapers. Split to gutter at front hinge.; xviii, 362 page + photogravure frontis + 1 photogravure plate + 4 full page plates + 26 small in-text illustrations. Blue-green cloth boards with gilt illustration on front board. Page dimensions: 202 x 129mm. The two photogravure plates show collections of game animal heads, both have an overlaying tissue paper guard with a printed key to the illustration. In the short preface to this new edition, the author notes that an index has now been added. "The bygone performances of an old 'muzzle-loader' may perhaps be considered rather obsolete by the young sportsman of the present with his double 'express.' But as human nature always has been, and, I opine, ever will be much the same, the pleasure of studying the habits of wild animals in their native haunts, the excitement of the stalk, and the charming influence of grand and beautiful scenery, must be little altered now from what they were years ago [...]" - from the opening paragraph.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
