About This Item
Shillington, PA: Shillington High School, 1960. Bound in green faux leather, stamped in gold. This is a reprint of the original yearbook printed for the 10 year reunion of the class -- from the original plates. The second page has a large photo of Updike as the Class President along with a 17-line verse composed for the high school class. He is also pictured with the senior photos noting his accomplishments and his hope for the future, "The sage of Plowville hopes to write for a living". (Dream fulfilled). Updike is also pictured in group photos of the "Amulet", The High-Life Staff, The Chatterbox weekly newsletter committee, the Debating club, The commencement speakers and Half Century favorites. Writing in the year book by Updike includes the Class Song, This is the reprint (from the original plates). Also, included is a large photo of John Updike's father, Wesley, who taught Math at the school. 80 pp. One photo from the seniors section neatly excised (someone's old boyfriend?).
