London: Birn Brothers, 1887. First Edition. Very good. An unusual and scarce double leporello, with two sets of six embossed chromolithographed panels. Approximately 9.5 x 37 inches when unfolded. A few archival repairs to the linen joints between panels, but still very good or better, in original paper folder, which has some chipping, creasing, and repaired tears. Payne (1858-1927) was a prolific military artist who produced Christmas cards and postcards for Raphael Tuck and illustrated numerous books and magazines. This is one of several works he was commissioned to create during Queen Victoria's Jubilee year. Each panel shows a winner of the Victoria Cross engaged in the act for which they were honored.
