Bound collection of issues No. 1 to 60 from the 27th year of the magazine, from 5 January to 31 October 1823. Most women's fashion plates by the famous illustrator Louis Marie Lante, 1789-1871.Plates numbered 2121 to 2194, missing 2160-2162, 2170, 2191-2193, several out of order, but a total of 64 fine fashion plates. La Mesangere (1761-1831) was author, journalist and editor, and published the Journal from 1797 to 1839, covering the post-Revolutionary Directory era through the Napoleonic Empire and the Bourbon Restoration. Brown leather spine, black leather labels with gilt decoration, boards with brown marble paper. Condition: Binding scuffed, front hinge weak, plates slightly browned and spotting with usual crease down the centre (where the magazine was folded before binding).

Rare copy of "Knight & Rumley's Heraldic Illustrations" with engraved title page and 77 finely engraved plates of heraldic crests, motifs, vignettes and alphabets.
An attractive engraver's pattern book first published by Frederick Knight and J. Rumley in 1827 as "Crests of the Nobility and Gentry of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" with 20 plates designed by S. Ireton and engraved by R. Hebblethwaite.
This 1870 edition includes sets of engraved plates from later volumes: 20 numbered pages of heraldic motifs 3 to 5 to each page (I to XX), 27 numbered plates of crests 12 to each page (I to XXVII), 1 unnumbered plate of crowns and orders, 24 numbered plates of coats of arms and vignettes 10 to each page (1 to 24), and 5 unnumbered plates of alphabets. With 20 page index at rear.
Condition: Half leather boards scuffed and frayed, spine repaired with brown buckram, cloth boards wrinkled, gilt crest on front board. Interior mostly fresh and bright, stamp of "W.G. Woodacre, Stretford, Manchester" on title page outside the plate, front endpapers spotted, rear endpapers missing.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
