The Watervliet Arsenal was founded in 1813 near the Hudson in Watervliet NY, and is the country's oldest continuously active manufacturing arsenal, producing cannon for the US military.

His paintings are held in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and many New York institutions. He is noted for the paintings 'Clinton's Brigade at Canajoharie' and 'Canajoharie about 1780', commissioned as part of the Sesquicentennial celebration and pageant of Clinton's Brigade that brought boats overland from the Mohawk River at Canajoharie to Otsego Lake.
