Author set out from San Fransisco to paint portraits of vanishing Melenesians. To achieve that end she painted portraits en route to finance the expedition. Story is related in the first person. A very personable travelogue! 416 pp. Book has gilt text/black decorations on spine and front panel, map ep at front of book only. Book has rubbed spine ends, age toning, bottom front corner is slightly 2 fon on half-title page. Fascinating reading! Bookseller's Inventory # 154551.
