Ashcroft, British Columbia: Ash-Tree Press, 1997. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Octavo size, 304 pp. Limited to publication of 500 copies (unnumbered). Originally published in 1929, this edition was published in 1996 by The Ash-Tree Press, known for their publication of supernatural and horror literature. They won the World Fantasy Award in 1997 for their publishing, among other awards (per Wikipedia).
Richard Marsh was the pen name for Richard Bernard Heldmann (1857-1915), who wrote under his own name until 1883. After that, while he retained his own name for personal reasons, his subsequent writings were done as Richard Marsh - and possibly other, now unknown names as well. His best-known work as Richard Marsh was The Beetle, published shortly after Dracula, and in the first years surpassing Dracula in popularity. This collection of 18 stories by Richard Marsh are their first publication in book form.
___DESCRIPTION: Black cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine, white endpapers, limitation statement at the back of the book followed by a listing of the press's publications from 1994 through 1997, with a short list of other titles in preparation at the time. The dust jacket has a cover illustration by Rob Suggs of a man kneeling before a seated ghost, with a sinister figure lurking in a doorway in the backgroun, black lettering on the front and spine.
___CONDITION: Fine condition, clean and crisp, entirely free of prior owner markings. Unclipped dust jacket also fine, no edgewear whatsoever.
