Pages and plates are lightly tanned and foxed throughout. Light thumb-marking present. Minor pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Soft crushing to spine ends. Book is slightly forward leaning. Unclipped jacket has moderate edge wear with chips, tears and creasing. Rubbed dark marking to surfaces. Light tanning to spine and edges.

New York: W.H. Collingridge Ltd, 1950. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good/Fair. First edition and first printing. Ex library book. In good green cloth boards, gilt titles to front and spine. The boards are tight, flat and quite clean; spine ends and corners bumped. The end papers are a little tanned, with vertical old sellotape marks from where jacket was attached. Tanned and lightly foxed cut edges. The text block is in good plus condition, firm, straight and fairly clean. With many b/w photos. Library stamp on Contents page. The jacket is in fair condition with colour photo of perennial border to front. The jacket is quite clean; very worn edges with small open and closed tears. Not price clipped. With sellotape still attached to the edges. Rare edition.
