About This Item
New York: HarperCollins, 2015. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. The award-winning Boyle's 15th novel is loosely based on a California man who touched off a massive, 36-day manhunt after murdering two people in 2011. The novel revolves around Adam Stenson, a paranoid shizophrenic spiraling out of control and into increasingly violent confrontations, Sara, his much older lover who is a member of a right-wing anarchist group, and Adam's father, Sten, ex-marine and Vietnam veteran, whose own legacy of rugged individualism and violent behavior leaves him powerless in the face of his son's mental illness. First printing, first edition (as stated, with complete numberline). About 6 1/4 x 9 1/4 inches, 384 pages, plus a brief author's bio, bound in light green, cloth-covered boards with black back strip and red lettering on spine. The dustjacket's front panel features author's name in yellow and title in large white letters against a background of black bordered by flowers and greenery suggesting a forest or jungle. Back panel has half-page photo of the author above three blurbs of praise. Boards and text appear near perfect except for a small dent at top edge of spine. Dj shows a black sticker across the bar code on back panel, o/w no significant flaws. Dj and book are comple, and unmarked. No highlighting or other markings. No tears, creases or bumping. A collectable copy of one of Boyle's best works.
