Red leather with elaborate gilt ornament, all edge gilting, 3 inch chip off the spine, front flyleaf lacking, light foxing to preliminaries. Text and plates very good, clean, bright, binding tight, cover gilt bright. Very good minus. Volume Two is bound in red cloth with elaborated gilt designs. 402pp., illustrated with 6 hand-colored plates, plus plates of fashion and Bible themes, songs with musical score. Tears to the cloth at the spine, boards worn at the edges. Page numbers miss-assigned folowing page 376, with "277" instead of "377". Text is correct. Good. . 1st. Hard. Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
