About This Item

New York: Macmillan, 1916. This First Printing collection of Vachel Lindsay poems is in Good+ condition (click on photo.) The contents are divided into two categories. The first is called "Vagrant Adventures in the South" (the Southern U.S.) and the second is "A Mendicant Pilgrimage in the East" (referring to the Middle East). These both include a combination of poems, stories, and autobiographical sketches. The book has MCMXVI on the Title page as well as Published November, 1916 on the copyright page, thus indicating First Printing status. This book contains a stamp on the front and rear endpapers that states Property of the United States Navy, as well a small stamp on the rear endpaper, Carlistle Barracks PA. Post Library, with a number. These are the only ex-library markings. The text is clean and white, but with a light 1/4-inch damp stain along the side edge margin. The binding is tight and secure. The book is bound in a burgundy cloth, with gilt spine lettering on front panel and spine. The spine cloth has darkened, and the tips as well as corners are rubbed. The book measures 5 1/2 by 7 3/4 inches with 205 pages, with ads in the rear for additional Vachel Lindsay titles, including his most famous, The Congo.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good+/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
