Inside the cover of the first volume, it is noted that Charles H. Holland was Highway Surveyor, Giles Leach was School Superintendent, and Hanson Bedie was Tax Collector. Entries include: Expence on the Bear Island road; one day to the poor farm on act of superintendent, 1.00; two days preparing books and copying, 2.00; 3 days to Dorchester on account of Elisha Veasy family, 3.00; horse and wagon 35 miles, 3.00; one day on act of Eltezera Bachelder & other business for the town, 1.00; one day to Moultenborow on act of Isaac Farrar family, 1.75; one day to let the road to be built near Jona. Robinson's, 1.00; paid J.S. Neal for services as Justice of Peace; paid for lime to whitewash farm house, .10; awards on N. Hampton road, 300.00; Samuel T. Leavitt for house keeping, 1.50; for shoveling out drifts, 1.25; Baptist Soc, 10.50; Lucinda Taylor, 9.50; D. Hampton road to be built, 1.00; 10 days attending Court at Concord and to Lynn after a witness, 10.00; one day to revize Juror Box, 1.00; D.G. Smith moved into my house the last Monday in June, rent to be $30.00 per year; Winchell Blaisdell moved into my house Dec 15th 1846, rent to be $30 per year; Paid the following bills in the Blood case [a long list of names and payments]; Elezer Young for surveying the road & makeing plan of the same where Blood up set; Ebenr. Stevens for 7 days looking up witness and prepareing for the tryal of the Blood Case, 4.00; travel & expence to Concord, 11.13; 10 days attending Court at Concord and to Lynn after writing, 10.00; &.; &c. ~~ All three volumes are bound in old marbled wrappers; two of them are sewn together at the spines. 5.25" x 3.25" Thomas Eastman (1787-1868), named for his father, was born and died at Belknap, New Hampshire. The Journal of the New Hampshire House of Representatives shows that Eastman was the elected representative from Belknap County, 1847-1848.
