As Stanley Paher in his Nevada bibliography says, a ''highly respected series of books, easily the best single source of south-western historical materials before 1860.'' (Note: the series name is not mentioned in this first edition of the book). The Hafens here tell the detailed story, much of it in the written words of the handcart pioneers, of this amazing exodus. The names of those in each handcart party appear her in the rosters of the companies, with the lists as complete as research can make them. Extensive appendices.
