About This Item
New York: Dodd, Mead, 1895. Hardcover. Very Good/Lacking. 2 v., 343 p. & 352 p. incuding index. 33 leaves of plates : ill. ; 8to. [7 1/4 x 5 1/4 2 ¼ thick both vol. combined]. Black cloth over boards (w/ spines faded to more of a brown), gilt spine lettering (dulled). Book Condition: Cloth mildly worn, with discoloration in a spot or two. Binding sound and no starting in hinges. Previous owner's name on ffep in neat hand on both volumes. Plates collated and perfect with tissue guards intact, no foxing at all to interior. Very Good at least. It's our belief that the UK and US editions were simultaneously published, making these first editions. One of the strongest pieces of evidence in this claim is the fact that both editions were printed on the Continent and year of publication for each volume is indicated on the it's title page. It is a curiousity to us that while the George Allen editions are widely held institutionally Worldcat shows no institutions holding the Dodd, Mead editions.
