The binding is lightly rubbed & bumped. xviii & 190 pages. Full-page illustrations & pictorial chapter titles in black & white by Leonard Holton. The front edges of the last few pages are chipped with a narrow piece out of the last page of the index. There is light staining to page 42 & to the top edge of the book. Very good. <p>First edition.<p>The signatures of Chalmers K. Bryce and F. Reardon appear on the half-title.<p>A post-Prohibition book aiming to educate young people brought up on synthetic whiskey and bathtub gin.<p>The first edition is quite scarce.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons. 1939. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Inscribed presentation copy. Publisher's red cloth illustrated and with titles in white to the upper board and spine. Illustrated in black and white throughout by Leonard T. Holton. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, with some darkening to the spine and extremities. The contents are entirely complete, clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Short closed tear to the last page of index. Inscribed by the illustrator in black ink on the half title "To Ruth and Paul / With fondest / memories of happy / days and nights / on Race and on / Pavelton... and / Happy New Year 1940 / Margie and Len".
