Innokenty Nikolaevich Zhukov (1875-1948) was a famous self-taught sculptor, innovative teacher, writer, a prominent figure in the scout movement in Russia and one of the founders of the pioneer movement in the USSR. As a teacher and favorite of students, Zhukov became famous for his many innovations and active participation in the children's movement - first scouts, and then pioneers. The very word "pioneer" for the participants in the children's movement of the Soviet period was proposed by him. Zhukov took modeling and sketching lessons in fits and starts at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg and then in Paris (at the Academy of Antoine Bourdelle), where he went in 1912 on a scholarship received from friends and admirers of his talent. World War I interrupted these lessons, but he continued to improve himself in his spare time from pedagogy and achieved significant success and fame in his country and Europe. This was especially promoted by his participation in so-called Autumn exhibitions in St. Petersburg and the mass production of art photo cards depicting his sculptural works.
This brief guide includes information on preparing oneself for sculpting (materials, tools) and actual exercises with many illustrations for guidance.
