About This Item

New York: Random House, 1943. Softcover. Very Good. First edition. Uncorrected Proof. String-tied folded and gathered sheets, bound without the illustrations. First and last leaves soiled and a bit worn, a very good copy. A hot-off-the-wire journalistic account of the Guadalcanal landing and attack which immediately became a bestseller and was quickly turned by Lewis Seiler into one of the best WWII action films. It was also important war propaganda, depicting for the first time a major American victory in the Pacific. Scarce in this format.
