Partial contents of the letters include: The Burnside Expedition; price and availabilty of Java Coffee; Chinese shipping; financial matters, stocks and bonds; Civil War news from the South and from the West; sleighing in Salem and Concord; $5,000 Oregon War Loan; US Government sending vessels south to Richmond "without delay"; &c.
