Victor Gollancz Ltd, London, 1929. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good/No Dust Jacket. Black coloured boards with yellow coloured titles to the backstrip. A novel in two parts. The first part deals with childhood and young adulthood of John Hardcastle in England and the last part of the horrors of World War I. This book was made into a play in 1930. A little bumping, rubbing and tears of the top backstrip edge with rubbing and bumping to the lower edge and to the lower edge. The spine is cocked. A few marks to the book panels along with some runs. Heavy browning and light foxing to the text block edge. Browning and heavy offset tanning to the endpapers and original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. Age toning to the internal text.
