London: Macmillan & Co Ltd, 1920. Set of three volumes. Ex library copies re-bound in heavy-duty blue boards with gilt titles on spine and with new endpapers. Each volume has a paper label inside front board, an old ink number on half-title, "Presentation Copy" embossed stamp on title page and an ink stamp on rev of same. Original endpapers have been removed: remaining pages run from half-title to last page of text in each volume. Condition-wise, the blue boards have no wear or bumping, and the gilt titles are all bright. Internally, some yellowing to the pages, a few old pencil marks in the text and also the odd grubby finger-marks, the folding map on page 24 of volume 1 showing the Retreat from Mons has been repaired with clear sticky-back plastic on the rev, with no damage to the text. Otherwise all good clean tight copies. Volume 1 covers the War up to September 1916, volume 2 up to March 1918, and volume 3 up to the end of the War, and with appendices showing lists of those men killed and those decorated. 378pp, 5 b&w illustrations,14 maps (volume 1), 383pp, 7 b&w illustrations, 6 maps (volume 2), 352pp, 5 b&w illustrations, 5 maps (volume 3). This is a heavy set of books, packaged weight would be over 3kg, so extra postage would be required.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ex-Library.
