Oversize, extra postage required. The books are AS NEW, even after 45 years of preservation. Pages are glossy, white or extremely colorful, extremely tight and sharp, with no marks. Covers (cloth boards of varying single colors, containing large particulars in gold gilt) are spotless. Dust jacket for each volume varies between Very Good and Fine, with 10 listed as Fine. [Richard] Andre, Copyrighted 1889." 10" x 12 ¼", 18 pages (first and last of which are pasted to the reverse covers), no dust jacket. Extremely scarce Victorian children's book with fanciful illustrations by well known British artist of the time, Richard Andre. McLoughlin Brothers hired as many as 75 artists for their factory and experimented with color reproduction. Each illustrated page contains a small poem. Half the illustrations are full color, and the other half shades of black, white, and tan. Overall condition = FAIR. Pages (heavy paper) are held to back cover by threads, front cover nearly separated, thin red binder tape present but no longer functioning. Blue boards with gold trim (two thin lines) decorative gold inlay along edges. Five raised gilt bands evenly spaced across spine. Decorative gold inlay and book title (on faux gold/brown square) between bands. The boards are bumped, rubbed and scratched. Rubbed, with spotting along spine hinges and board edges. The top corner of the front board is rubbed off, revealing the underlaying board. There is what appears to be moisture/water stain across the bottom of the front board.
