Shipman freely applies his own subjective criteria, omitting, for example, some cowboy stars like Roy Rogers and Gene Autrey. Also missing are more recent sensations, such as Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. An 8-page introduction provides a general overview of the "Golden Age" and its studio system. Stars are listed alphabetically, with approx. 2-3 pages per actor. Each entry lists the actor's major roles and a summary of his career. Notable script quotes are sprinkled throughout.
