Albert Skira, Geneva, Switzerland, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Illustrated. foreword by authors, bibliography, index of names and list of colour plates. The text is illustrated with numerous reproductions of various artists works from the 15th century – the plates have been tipped in. Green coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured embossed titles to the top right hand corner of the front panel and to the back strip. Coloured illustrated dustwrapper with yellow and white coloured titles to the front panel. Part of 'The Great Centuries of Painting' series by the publisher, this time dealing with the 15th century, the waning of the mediaeval style of painting and the rise of the Renaissance style. A little rubbing to the book corners and back strip corners. Age toning of the text block edges and of the pages. The front hinge has cracked. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels and a previous owner has placed tape to both the front and verso sides of the dustwrapper, top back strip edge, to support a 0.5'' tear.
