A small 4to handsome later binding in brown calf over marbled boards with five spine bands, red leather label & gilt decoration and lettering. [xvi, 381pp; 2, 1, 259pp, 1]. Illustrated with 5 large fold-out and 25 full-page copper engraved plates, several partial-page engravings, many vignettes, headers, footers, historiated letters, line drawings and lists. Text and hinges are tight & intact. World cat states: "A (laid-in) prospectus, 'Proposals for printing by subscription, the Grand theatre of honour', names as authors A. Boyer and J. Innes". Page xiii has a small piece missing from lower corner. 2" edge tear to bottom plate at page 240. Except for a few spots, text is clean & bright with some age toning to edges plates. CONTENTS: I. The Science of Heraldry with a Complete Dictionary of all the Terms proper thereto. II. An Historical and Chronological Abridgment of the Settlements and Revolutions of the Monarchies and Sovereignties of Europe ... III.
