New York: J. M. Hager, 1865. Paperback. Very Good +. 32 p.: illustrations; 15 cm. Sewn; grey wrapper with portrait of J. M. Hager. Wrapper title and copyright statement. "Matthews & Warren, Stereotypers & Printers, Buffalo, N.Y." Inside front wrapper and both sides of back wrapper have advertisements for Steinway & Sons pianos and Carhart, Needham & Co.'s organs. Pages 1, 2, and 14-16 also contain Steinway & Sons advertisements; last page contains advertisement for the Florence reversible feed sewing machine. Contains the lyrics of the choruses and text of dialogues telling the story of the American Civil War. Written by Henry Morford (1823-1881), this dramatic depiction ends with the assasination of President Abraham Lincoln, the ascension of Andrew Johnson to the presidency, and a "Grand Tableau of Peace." A version of this first appeared in 1863, during the war. There are also several later, expanded editions of this work. This is the first edition published after the conclusion of the war and the assassination of Lincoln. Very scarce. In Very Good+ Condition: corners of front wrapper and first leaf slightly creased; minor chipping at lower corner of front wrapper; front wrapper slightly soiled; otherwise, clean and tight.
