London, Blades, East & Blades, 1858.. Reprinted in 1858 from William Caxton's edition of 1490, and LIMITED TO 55 COPIES ONLY. 8vo, approximately 200 x 135 mm, 8 x 5¼ inches, frontispiece with tissue guard is a printed facsimile of the first page of Caxton's book, repeated within, the text consists of a complete reproduction of Caxton's print in gothic type and "an annotated reprint" in roman type, pages: viii, [3], 4- 25, [1], [36], [40], followed by 8 pages of Glossary, plus the prospectus for the Treatise on the Typographical Works of William Caxton, bound in full publisher's black morocco, gilt border to covers, rebacked to match, no lettering or label, all edges red, new endpapers. Small neat repair to fore-edge of upper cover, slight fading to edges of covers, small blind stamp to top of title page, 1 page slight protruding fom text block, tissue guard browned and with a small chip at fore-edge, contents clean and bright, binding tight and firm. A very good copy. See: A Bibliography of Printing by Bigmore and Wyman, page 64, "An effort has been made, by the use of Types very similar to those employed by Caxton, to give this reprint something of the Appearance of the Original. To effect this still further, the Types were cast expressly in Pewter, which, from its Softness, yields an Impression resembling more the Productions of the early Printers than could be obtained from harder materials. Great care has been taken to make the Text an accurate Reproduction of the Original". (Preface). Fifteenth century books on health are very rare. This is a health maintenance manual focusing on how to keep men (not women) healthy, with occasional notes on ill-health. Both parts were published anonymously and The Governayle of Helthe has been variously attributed to John de Bordeaux and also to Bartholomaeus Montagnana, the younger, the Medecyne of Ye Stomacke has been attributed to John Lydgate. Caxton's edition was not reprinted until our edition of 1858 which is beautifully printed. William Blades the editor and publisher of our edition was deeply interested in Caxton and wrote the Life and Typography of William Caxton, England's First Printer, which was published in 1861-1863. Description:
Strasbourg : D'Emil Simon Fils , 1834. This is a very good hardcover copy in the original binding of brown marbled paper boards with an all-over green design. There is a large printed paper label with the title inset in an elaborately lithographed Gothic style frame. Tan paper covered spine of dark green cloth. The edges of the covers have a little wear. Inside there is an elaborately detailed title-page followed by 32 of 40 numbered plates. No evidence of plates being removed, as binding still very tight, but normally with 40 plates. All plates are black & white lithographs showing an amazing variety of typefaces and alphabets. Many are composed out of very imaginatively worked animals, plants, people or inventions forming the letters. A classic of this genre, here an incomplete copy with various faults, such as browning, tiny foxing, and 2 instances of later careful coloring of initials on different plates. Quite rare in the original binding. Large oblong folio, 11" high X 13 1/2"… Read More

Description:
San Juan Capistrano, California:: Dirk Hagner,, [n.d.].. Edition of 30. 11.25 x 7.25" closed, extends to 11.75 x 30". Accordion structure with four folds. Letterpress printed on 100% cotton paper. Black paper-covered boards with silver titling and multicolored thread tie closure. Housed in black lidded box with title in white and hand written edition number on lid. Signed and numbered by the artist. Dirk Hagner: "The album uses a quote from Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska employing texting as a means to allow use of larger type in the letterpress process than would be normally possible. 'All is mine and nothing owned for memory, and mine only while I look.' Much like a jpeg photograph the words compress when texted to fewer letters; however, when read, it 'resurrects' to the full wording. It allowed the effective use of some pied wood type.

Not in Melzi. No copies located. Apparently unrecorded booklet with text and illustrations produced completely in lithograph. The narrative concerns a lady who is handily juggling simultaneous affairs with a young man and with the young man's father.

Description:
The first-ever appearance in print of James Joyce's Story for Children, THE CATS OF COPENHAGEN in a special limited edition of 200 copies.
Michael Caine has printed this large-format letterpress edition with virtuoso skill, setting the text in a wondrously expressive array of original, early twentieth-century hand-cut Italian and French founts to capture the imagination of readers young and old. Casey Sorrow has brought to life Joyce's curious 'Københavnere' with ingeniously playful pen-and-ink drawings, specially commissioned, and printed by typographique cliché.
This Numbered issue, printed on Fedrigoni Freelife Vellum, is in double-elephant sextos and hand-bound in one-quarter cloth over marbled boards.

U.S.A.: ITC, 1975. First Edition. Published to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the American typewriter, with designers Joel Kaden and Tony Stan reinvigorating the font by dispensing with its rigid spacing. "On every standard typewriter, there's a metal bar with a row of teeth spaced exactly one-tenth of an inch apart. In 1874 this famous bar lifted the typewriter from the inventor's bench and placed it in the office where it changed our reading habits, modified our concepts of legibility, and eventually opened the world of business to women." Description:
London: Unit Editions, 2021. 1st ed. Paperback. New/no dj as issued. A long overdue book examining the extraordinary life and work of artist/designer Ed Fella. Ed Fella is revered by many of the leading names in contemporary design. Now, at long last, there is a book that charts Ed's journey from the commercial design studios of 1950s Detroit to his current position as a widely celebrated artist/designer. Ed Fella: A Life in Images makes extensive use of his vast treasure store of visual delight: it showcases flyers, posters, original sketches, drawings, Polaroids and collages, as well as items from Ed's collection of vernacular design. The book makes unrestricted use of Ed's vast archive. David Cabianca, the book's co-author and its instigator, has surveyed the archive in depth. He writes: "Ed Fella's archive is legion. It branches into numerous streams while sustaining a robust trail of examples along the way. Fella's archive exhausts the possibilities one might find in graphic design. Ed Fella… Read More

"From the dust jacket: Paul Rand's stature as one of the world's leading graphic designers is uncontestable. For half a century his pioneering work in the field of advertising design and typography has exerted a profound influence on the design profession; he almost single-handedly transformed "commercial art" from a practice that catered to the lowest common denominator of taste to one that could assert its place among the fine arts. Among the numerous clients for whom he has been a consultant and/or designer are the American Broadcasting Company, IBM Corporation, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
In this witty and instructive book, Paul Rand speaks on the process and… Read More
