New York: Wm. Morrow, 1982. First U. S. Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/fine. 342pp. 8vo. Author's debut novel about political shenanigans in Africa. Won the Whitbread Prize. Stated First U. S. Edition with a complete number line from 1 to 10. Book is tight, square, unmarked, and shows the original price of $14.50. Book has some mild shelf wear, spine ends are ever so slightly bumped, and there is slight soiling to top edge of text block. Sunning to top edge of book front and verso (see photos). Jacket has a couple of small crinkles and the back, which is white, shows a slight darkening. Jacket is Brodart protected.

Synopsis

A Good Man in Africa is the debut novel of Scottish writer William Boyd, a black comedy that follows the career of Morgan Leafy, a drunken English diplomat being blackmailed by an African politician as the country slowly descends into chaos.
