Signed " Phyllis Parker from the author 1908" Twelve plates in colour by the author. Robertson was part of the talented group of artists and illustrators who flourished in London in the 1890's and he claimed to have been influenced by Crane and the Glasgow school, something that is clearly evident in the illustrations in this work. The work is essentially a poem, written as a play for a young one year old child. In a cloth binding. Externally, a trifle rubbed with loss to corners and backstrip detached with some loss. Fading to rear board. Front joint starting but firm. Ink inscription to front free end-paper. Internally, firmly bound with light foxing to first and last couple of pages, otherwise bright and clean. A magnificent book.

In very good condition with very good dustwrapper. (DW tanned, spine rubbed and faded, a couple of nicks and small edges tears to spine ends and corners. Some small foxing spots. Tear with small hole on front. In protective sleeve.) Cover is very clean and smart, some minor rubbing to ends of spine. Some minor tanning and light spots to endpapers. No penned inscriptions. Some small dark foxing spots around outer page edges. Else inside pages and plates all very clean, bright and tight throughout. 152pp + 8pp cat. Illustrated with 12 full-page colour plates by the author.

Inscribed by the author and illustrator on the front free endleaf: "Silly rot, I call it" Tommy in Pinkie and Fairies. W. Graham Robertson, Jan. 1909." In reference to, "Pinkie and the Fairies," another of Robertson's works, first performed in 1908. Robertson was a prominent painter and theatre designer, writer and illustrator, friend of Walter Crane, Edward Burne-Jones and many of the elite artists and writers of the period. A wonderful and enchanting rendering of the illustrations. Near fine. Very scarce thus.
