The text is illustrated with black-and-white photography and there is a black-and-white photograph as a frontispiece. The story of gold prospecting in Papua New Guinea in the 1930s.   Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges; bumping, rubbing and fraying of the book corners with rubbing of the lower book edges. Fading to the back strip with the book panels showing handling marks and stains. Foxing to the back strip. Age toning of the text block edges and pages with foxing to the textblock edges and there is foxing to the end pages, heavier at the beginning and end of the book. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down and on the half title page there is a presentation plate from a school. Speaking of which, the school, Newington College, has embossed the front cover with their school emblem and motto in a gilt colour – please see photograph.
