About This Item

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1974. First edition. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket. (14877). Octavo, cloth. The first novel in the Spenser series.

Synopsis

The first of Robert B. Parker's Spenser Series. Private Investigator Spenser is hired by an unnamed university in Boston to track down a stolen illuminated manuscript from the Middle Ages. The head of a student group seemingly tied to the theft is murdered, and a blond co-ed seems responsible, although Spenser knows there's more to the murder and the theft. The search for the manuscript and the killer uncovers criminal activity within a radical student group, and even after the manuscript is returned the murders continue. Spenser knows that he himself is in danger if he doesn't solve the case.
