Exploring the history and development of the McCaslin family, descended from Lucius Quintus Carothers McCaslin. The main theme is the racial divide that defined the history of South America in the decades before the civil war: the family is divided into the white side descended from from Carothers McCaslin and his wife and the black branch descending from Carothers McCaslin and the slave-girl Tomey, with whom McCaslin had a sexual relationship. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, general light soiling to the boards and a minor darkening to the spine; with a closed tear to the front fly leaf. Previous ownership inscription in pencil to the front free endpaper, dated 1943. The dust wrapper is unclipped and rather worn, with shelf wear and chipping throughout, some loss to the head of the spine and sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Light scattered spotting to the fore edge, affecting the occasional leaf, although generally the pages appear very clean throughout. Very Good
