In this memoir, published for the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of war, draws on her memories and posters, advertising, newspaper clippings and other popular media to paint a picture of life on the home front. Ms. Peate went on to a 25 year career in writing and broadcasting in Canada. Her memoir of her childhood in 1930s Montreal, Girl in a Red River Coat, is also available.
