Hardcover. thick12mo, 16.5cm, viii,384 & 288 & 304pp., with 3 title pages, in contemporary half calf, gilt ruled raised bands, black leather label gilt, marbled boards, some general wear and some rubbing at the edges, good to very good sound copy (Lds). - George Payne Rainsford James (1799-1860), English novelist, was noted for his historical romances , of which he is reputed to have published over one hundred. He was influenced and advised by, Washington Irving and Sir Walter Scott, and was compared to Dumas.
