Von le Fort is a German writer whose work has been compared favorably with Isak Dinesen, Graham Greene and Francois Mauriac. Her perennial theme is the great Christian paradox of attainment in sacrifice, accomplishment in retirement, life in death. Many of her tales are situated in the Middle Ages and Renaissance .
